How to send word
The surest way to contact us is by email. Like many small magazines, we live largely in our inboxes, where letters arrive as relentlessly as the turning of the solar wheel. For general inquiries, editorial questions, or notes about the magazine, write to hawkandwhippoorwill@gmail.com. We have in-house capacity to correspond in English, Spanish or French.
We also welcome post. Letters, notes, and other correspondence may be sent to:
Pen & Anvil Press c/o Bonfire Bookshop
attn. Hawk & Whippoorwill
One Wood Place,
Fitchburg MA 01420
United States
If you would like to submit your writing for consideration, whether for the magazine itself or for possible chapbook or broadside publication, please do so through our submissions portal.
We also welcome suggestions for books, essays, poems, videos, webinars and other consumables for possible inclusion in the Recommendations column accompanying each issue. Photographers and illustrators are warmly invited to send work as well; we frequently feature visual art on our homepage and social channels.
If for some reason the ordinary routes of communication fail or prove out of reach, we remain open to other forms of correspondence. For example, messages have been known to reach us...
- as a note tucked into the stones of a wayfinding cairn beside a laurel-shaded trail;
- through the amplitude modulation of a cricket echo in a spring-wet cave or in cricket song on a summer evening (we're flexible);
- via the choreography code of a raptor in flight, circling the air over the clearing; and even
- the low whistle of a nightjar repeating itself at the dark forest-edge after dusk.
You can also find us on Instagram at @hawkandwhip, where we share poems, images from the field, and glimpses of the habitats, landscapes and pages that inspire the work we publish.
We look forward to hearing from you, however or whenever we hear from you. |
